Leadership and volunteering is now recognised as one of four key areas of focus for monitoring impact of School Sport Partnership work within the national Physical Education, school sport and club links strategy.

Since 2001, the majority of Stoke schools have been striving to increase the opportunities for young people to develop their leadership and volunteering skills. A continuum of opportunities for young people from the age of 9 to 18 has matured with close liaison taking place between schools in Stoke and networking with national organisations including the Youth Sport Trust, Sports leaders uk , the DfES and DCMS through the Step into Sport programme.
